Orthopaedic Solution

Supporting patients before, during and after their hip and knee replacement surgery

Knee and hip replacements are among the most common orthopaedic surgeries performed in the Western world, and an inefficient process can result in increased expense. Care4Today® Orthopaedic Solution is designed to improve patient experience by engaging patients well before they reach the operating room, and continues to support patients through their recovery.

The platform provides patients with information throughout their joint replacement journey
Hip and knee replacement surgery and recovery may be made easier when patients know what to expect.

The Challenge

While orthopaedic surgery can greatly improve patients' mobility, the procedure itself involves surgery and can result in lengthy recovery time. This can impact patient satisfaction and increase the overall cost to the healthcare system. Opportunities exist to manage patients more efficiently, reducing the number of inpatient days, lowering the cost of care, and also improving the overall patient experience.

Patients may have a better experience from orthopedic procedures by being more proactive/more engaged during their joint surgery recovery

The Solution

Care4Today designed a Technology-enabled patient engagement and flow management programme for patients undergoing elective hip or knee replacement surgery that:

  • Empowers patients, by providing them with personalised educational materials and online tools to monitor their progress before and after surgery.
  • Keeps processes streamlined by allowing healthcare teams to track the progress of patients and maintain contact in and out of the hospital setting, this results in consistency and continuity of care.
  • Maintains contact with the patient in and out of the hospital setting, resulting in consistency and continuity of care.

The Impact

Since its initial launch in 2013, more than 2,000 patients have participated in the Care4Today® Orthopaedic Solution in the UK. A study of this solution has been undertaken and results will be published in late 2015.
